Bill first moved to Anna Maria Island in 1972 while working at the Sarasota Kennel Club. He then worked around the world as a harness racing judge until 1994 when he moved back to the island. He started making jewelry on Anna Maria City Pier in March of 1995 when it was the original Anna Maria Oyster Bar. He opened Anna Maria Rocks in 2016 when there was talk about closing the pier for up to a year for refurbishing. Bill ran both businesses until Hurricane Irma did irreversible damage to the pier which was torn down in 2018. Luckily the store didn’t receive any damage from the storm. Anna Maria Rocks has grown into the number one store on Anna Maria Island on TripAdvisor for the last two years.
The little store, only 165 square feet, specializes in handmade wire wrapped jewelry, fossil shark teeth, fossils, rocks, meteorites, dinosaur teeth, minerals and crystals from all over the world. Most jewelry is made in the store. Kelly Johnson’s hand knapped obsidian knives are one of a kind. The most popular part of the store is an island where kids can touch fossils , shark teeth and more. Customers can make their own necklace or anklet with sterling silver pendants, stones, crystals, shark teeth and alligator teeth. Kids really enjoy this. Of course we can turn your favorite sea shell, crystal or stone into jewelry
The store also has a selection of Rock and Roll memorabilia from Aretha Franklin to Frank Zappa and lots in between. We also sell local musicians’ CD's in the store.
